Dinky Identification
Recognition/identification of Dinky Toys and similar items. This article is designed to help Dinky Toys collectors who are buyers and sellers of Dinky Toys Items to correctly identify those items that are Dinky Toys and especially the accessories and street furniture and those that are not made by Meccano Limited/Dinky Toys. The scope of this does not cover recognition of individual items; this is left to the excellent reference books on the subject and many online guides including this site, especially our image galleries. This section only refers to the Dinky Toys made until about 1966 in the UK Factory. IntroductionWith the growth of the use of Internet auction sites in the buying and selling of collectible toys such as Dinky Toys, many items are advertised and bought by buyers and sellers who do not have access to the reference material. This article is designed to aid in the recognition of Dinky Toys and Dinky Accessories and will provide some identification tips for those items frequently advertised as Dinky Toys’ but which are unbranded. We also acknowledge that the term “Dinky Toys” has become a generic name for these types of toys especially from the 1950s and 1960s much in the same way as Hoover and Sellotape. Categories |
